Asiedu Nketiah declares that he will not run for general secretary of the NDC again.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, has declared he will not run for reelection (NDC).

Since 2005, Asiedu Nketia has served as the NDC’s general secretary.

Speaking on Accra-based Radio Gold on September 21, 2022, he said it was time for him to step down from his position as general secretary.

According to Asiedu Nketsia, other people ought to be given the chance to hold that job.

When asked about his upcoming move, he replied that he would make an announcement when the time came.

He has reportedly expressed interest in running for the NDC’s national chairman position.

He asserted that despite claims to the contrary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is equally qualified for the general secretary position inside the NDC.

When asked if it was true that he was running for national chairman, he responded that it was too early to comment or declare his interest.

The general people will be aware of it when the chance arises and the timing is right, he claimed.

Asiedu Nketiah responded to a query about NDC debates that it would be difficult for him or anybody else to challenge the current national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who is expected to run for re-election, by saying he disagrees with that idea.

He claimed that the NDC’s past did not support that claim.

It is actually going in the exact other direction, which could be problematic if the party decides to forbid those with interests from participating.

He claimed there were examples, as seen in 2000 and 2005, that led to challenges for the party on two separate times.

On December 17, 2022, the NDC will choose new national executives to serve as the party’s leaders for the ensuing four years.
