Allotey Jacobs: “God Forbid That NDC Will Retake Power”

Bernard Allotey Jacobs, the former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has prayed to God to prevent the rise of his former party.

In a panel discussion on Wednesday morning’s “Kokrokoo” episode of Peace FM, Allotey Jacobs discussed the problems with illegal mining and expressed her dissatisfaction with Ghanaian politics.

He referred to Ghana’s politics as “dirty” and exposed certain prominent NDC members, including John Dramani Mahama, a former president and 2020 NDC presidential candidate, for making claims that aimed to legitimize the illegal mining industry.

Ghana’s development is threatened by illegal mining, sometimes known as “galamsey.” The environment and water bodies where the galamseyers operate are destroyed.

The current administration has therefore launched a concentrated effort to stop this illegal commerce.

However, some NDC members, according to Allotey Jacobs, have assured Ghanaians involved in illicit mining that they will back them in continuing their operations in exchange for votes in the upcoming elections.

If the NDC wins back power, Allotey voiced doubt that they will battle galamsey, but he thought they might give the illegal miners more confidence instead, which would make it harder to put an end to the canker.

According to him, Mr. Mahama and his party are a contributing factor in why Ghana appears to be losing the galamsey battle.

” . . God forbid that they will return to power, but assuming in the near future they come into power, won’t the NPP also attack them? If it happens this way, are we doing this country good?”, he queried.

Ghanaians must know the “wrongdoers”, he said while rebuking the opposition party, “those who don’t want Ghana to succeed and place them aside for Ghana’s water bodies to become better”.
