The registration of SIM cards using the Ghana Card has been extended to July 31, 2022.
In a statement dated March 22, 2022, signed and issued by the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the extension of the deadline is to “ensure that every eligible SIM card is captured and we produce a credible database by the end of the exercise.
Speaking to Mr.Archibald, who is a business man kum security analyst on this issue, he stated that ” I personally don’t understand why this registration is given a deadline. There are already a lot of challenges facing the NIA, because some people complained of inferior cards being issued to them by the NIA, because they took it to the banks and was rejected. Again, there are many individuals who have applied for the cards and have not received them, how do you blame such a person ?
The telcos are wise, am not sure they can just disconnect anybody’s mobile number for this reason…Am not sure they would want to invite a pandemonium in thier offices.. How do telcos treat those who have applied for the Ghana card and has since not gotten it.. this deadline is not prudent ” .
Meanwhile, people are calling for an extension in the deadline.
