Effort to get the E-Levy passed has been met with strong oppositions. Not only political opponents, several private and business individuals have lifted up heavy mountain of questions begging answers. Some say, the E-Levy will only increase hardship, others also say, apart from hardship it is also an illegal tax that breaches every standard that taxes in Ghana should meet as set-out by it’s legislation.
Speaking to Hon.Archibald, who is a politician kum security analyst,
he said ” Seems in the government’s view, the E-Levy will yield goodies enough to handle our national problems rather than sourcing for a loan from IMF and others, nevertheless if the Levy is faced with an acceptance challenge, the government should swiftly find alternative means to raise money for its projects…as clearly seen from commentaries by some citizens, the E-Levy has not yet been understood, honestly I feel the government should have hinted in detail or pre-notified citizens on this levy before the budget, rather than Springing it as a suprise… Again, honestly think the tollbooth should be brought back , probably we can increase the toll charges a bit and some other revenue measures, i find the closure of tolbooth a bit sickening, how can you close a chapter that gives revenue for a new one” .
