1. Conveners of #FixTheCountry today held a meeting with the Inspector General of Police and other members of the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service.

2. The meeting was held at the request of the newly appointed IGP. According to him, his reason for calling the meeting was to assure us of maximum protection from the start to the end of the August 4 #FixTheCountry protest.

3. We went over the routes earmarked for the protest from Obra spot (Circle) — Farisco Left — TUC — Kinbu Senior High School – Centre for National Culture – to Independence Square

4. We also explained that we have recruited and trained marshals who will be assigned to liaise with police on anything and to guide the crowd.

5. On COVID-19 protocols, the marshals will be in charge of making sure everybody wears their masks and maintaining distance.

6. We asked if they intend to deploy the military as recently crowd controls tend to unfortunately involve the army. They said the protest will be entirely police operation.

7. We were also assured by the Police that water cannons will not be let loose on protesters and would only be deployed as a precautionary measure.

8. Again, we enquired as to if there was any information about a counter protest? They said no.

9. They also assured of their preparedness to protect the protesters against any infiltrates.

10. We assured them that ours was a peaceful demonstration and anybody coming there with malicious intent to deliberately cause violence would be promptly given up to the Police.

11. The meeting ended amicably with all sides poised to ensure a peaceful and impactful #FixTheCountry demonstration come Wednesday 4th August 2021.

12. All is clear for the first #FixTheCountry demonstration. See you all there.
