First lady, Vice’s wives don’t need anything beyond “Chop money”

These Women don't need anything beyond "Chop money"

The public outcry and backlash that has greeted first Lady’s decision to refund allowances paid to her is intensified, with the editor of the Hawk News paper, Charles McCarthy, joining the fray of critics.

Stating his opinion in an interview with Eric Ahianyo on MORNING UPDATE on TV XYZ, Mr McCarthy said the offices of the First and wife of vice president are merely ceremonial and dysfunctional Institutions which makes them not to be paid apart from house keeping money.

” These women do not need anything beyond their house keeping money”

According to him, the husbands are paid well enough to be able to take good care of them so Parliament’s decision to approve emoluments payments for presidential spouses are unconstitutional.

Mr Peter Ankomah on the same show asserted that, the First ladies returned the monies because of the backlash they received from the people but McCarthy on the other hand argued that, if that’s the case then the first Lady ought to reject everything given to her by the State.

“If you are rejecting what the state is giving you, you must even reject the office, cars the state has provided.Because your office is alien to our Constitution” he added

He was asked if Former first lady Lordina Mahama will also follow the same modus operandi to refund the allowances paid to her at the time she was first Lady.In response McCarthy stated categorically that, Lordina Mahama was doing her charity work even after office, so nothing prevents them from working without being sponsored or paid by the state.
